UTAH STATE HISTORICAL RECORDS ADVISORY BOARD Mission: Values: COOPERATION: It is important for archivists to cooperate and learn from each other in order to achieve more than they would acting alone. PARTICIPATION: In order to achieve maximum support for historical records activities, the Board seeks participation by individuals and groups with various traditions and interests and from communities throughout Utah. DIVERSITY: We will work to preserve records which represent the diverse experiences of all Utahns. EMPOWERMENT: We will empower Utah’s citizens to take responsibility for their historical records. Vision I: Goals: B. Provide a course of training seminars for cultural heritage institutions, offered through and with the assistance and cooperation of the regional repositories. C. Develop an online resource of specialists and consultants who are available to assist institutions with training, as contacts, or for special-needs projects. D. Distribute information about training opportunities, seminars, professional development, and activities to archivists, record keepers and repositories throughout the state through the directory of Utah repositories and the consortium. E. Participate with the Utah Manuscripts Committee, the Conference of Inter-Mountain Archivists, and other professional organizations, cooperating on and encouraging joint projects. Vision II: Goals: B. Conduct needs assessment surveys, evaluating the training needs of smaller institutions in the state and incorporating the results in training resources. C. Support regional repositories to ensure that historical documentary materials are deposited in the appropriate repository and promote access to historical records. Vision III: Goals: B. Work for an endowment for History Fair students that awards projects that use repositories with original source documents on Utah’s history. C. Develop informational brochures and online information to support and educate the public on record keeping needs and opportunities. Vision IV: Goals: B. Support the access to records through new formats. Offer grants to assist in the digitization and online access of digital assets of historical materials. Ensure the preservation of digital assets, adhere to digitization and metadata standards, and participate in the Mountain West Digital Library.
