Summary of Records

The records in this series were created by the County Recorder to document the sale or transfer of property.

Scope and Content

Deed entries in these volumes record the sale or transfer of property. By law, conveyances were not validated until entered by the county recorder. Two brands from 1859 are also recorded following the deeds. the second half of the second volume contains the MINUTES of the Probate Court (series 17493).
Entries in the volume record land sales and mortgages and include such information as the property description, names of the persons selling and buying, the amount, and signatures. There is a signed statement by the probate judge authorizing the transaction followed by the recorder's statement, signature, and date recorded. Two brands are registered as well at the end of the deeds portion of the volume.
The series ends with the dissolution of the county by the territorial legislature in January 1862.

Processing Information

These volumes were microfilmed in 1958 by the Utah County Clerk's office. The series was processed by A.C. Cone in February 1996. The second reel was cut to remove CEDAR COUNTY PROBATE COURT MINUTES belonging to series 14793 and to remove the typed transcript for that while retaining the typed transcript for this series on a separate reel. The hard copy was transferred to the Archives in March 2003 by Utah County and this inventory updated. Since deeds were recorded in the minute books, hard copy should be sought under those series.
