Scope and Content

This series is composed of the correspondence handled by the Racing Commission during its two years of operation. The letters are primarily from individuals seeking licenses to hold racing meets in Ogden, Farmington, and Salt Lake. Some parties wrote to give their support for one racing venue or another. The correspondence clarifies the commission' s implementation of various rules and procedures. The series reveals the extent of interest in the state' s racing meets; jockies and horse owners from Canada, Mexico, and many U.S. states applied for licenses to participate in the races.
