Scope and Content
Gabel Mining District rules and regulations stated that the district recorder should keep a reception book which should include columns showing the year, month, day, hour and minute when any instrument was filed for record; the names of the grantors or locators alphabetically arranged; the names of grantees; the nature of the instrument and the book and page where recorded; a concise description of the property affected; and any remarks the recorder deemed appropriate (Utah State Archives, San Juan County Recorder, Miscellaneous records, series 23400, Book B, p 179-180). Almost all records filed by the Gabel District recorder in this reception book were filed in November 1892, when the mining district was organized, or in December of the following year.
Alphabetical by subject, thereunder chronological by date.
The first part of the reception book contains references to claims recorded in Gabel Mining District Book 1. These entries are alphabetically grouped and thereunder are arranged chronologically according to date and time filed. The second part of the reception book contains references to claims recorded in both Book 1 and Book 2. These entries are strictly chronological by date and time filed.
