Division of Environmental Health Environmental Coordinating Committee agendas and minutes, 1972-1980.

The Environmental Coordinating Committee (ECC) was a group composed of representatives from various Utah state government agencies. The committee was coordinated through the Governor's Division of Policy and Planning Coordination Intergovernmental Relations Section. The ECC was responsible for assessing the environmental ramifications of a wide variety of proposed projects in the state. Typically ECC meetings would include discussion of various state and federal government building projects, notices of intent and pre-application submissions for projects with potential environmental impacts, applications for construction, and Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) reports.

Representative members on the ECC would evaluate materials that appeared on meeting agendas and make recommendations based on the wide variety of professional backgrounds present on the committee. Utah state agencies represented on the ECC included the Department of Natural Resources, State Lands and Forestry, theDivision of Water Resources, the Department of Transportation, the Department of Agriculture, the Utah Energy Office, the Department of Community and Culture, the Division of Environmental Health, the Division of Wildlife Resources, the Division of Parks and Recreation, the Utah Geological and Mineral Survey, the State Science Advisor, the Office of State Planning, Utah State History, the Division of Oil, Gas and Mining, and the Division of Water Rights. Often ECC meetings were attended by guests that might include members of the press and representatives from various federal agencies (including the National Parks Service, the Bureau of Land Management, and the U.S. Forest Service).

The ECC meeting records in this series were preserved by the representatives from the Division of Environmental Health. Typically the records found for each meeting include a copy of the meeting notice, the agenda for the upcoming meeting, minutes from the previous ECC meeting, and a roster of attendees.Later information packets tend to also have enclosures consisting of supplemental information related to the various topics discussed by the ECC. These can include maps, correspondence, contracts, figures, and EIS records.
