Summary of Records

This series contains a published history of the school district entitled "History of Granite School District, 1904-1976; its Roots in Utah and American Education." The book was "written and compiled" by Marie E. Gooderham of the district Office of Instructional Services as an American Revolution Bicentennial project and published by the school district. The book includes background information on the development of public education in the United States and in Utah, as well as a narrative history of the school district. Custody History

The copy of "History of Granite School District, 1904-1976" in the collection of the State Archives is signed by the author as a gift to Donald J. Norton, who served a principal in several school in the district. Mr. Norton made a number of notes in the book in relation to his time of service and the schools where he was assigned. The book was likely donated to or purchased second-hand by the Archives. It was included in the reference/staff library for many years and was accessioned into the permanent collection in 2021.
