Summary of Records
Scope and Content
This series contains a slide show presentation created by the Centennial Commission Arts Division and titled "This is the Place". The slide show includes narration and was shown around the state as part of the 1947 Pioneer Centennial celebration. The production was compiled by Lorin F. Wheelwright and Willard R. Harwood. The script was written by Dr. Harold Folland and the narrator was Lynn McKinley. The color slides were taken by C. Elmer Barratt, Walter Cottam, Willard R. Harwood, Mabel Ross, Mattie S. Sanford, and Lorin F. Wheelwright.
The slide show is made up of six sections, entitled "Aeons in the Making", "Blossoming Desert", "The Bounteous Earth", "Cities Grow", "At School and at Play", and "Scenic Wonderlands". The accompanying script provides text to go along with each of the slides. In addition to the slides and written script is a reel to reel tape recording of the narration.
The presentation focuses heavily on nature, including the scenic wonders and landscapes of Utah and an entire section on native plants. It also includes references to cities and man-made monuments, Native Americans, Mormon settlers, agriculture, skiing, children, and education.

Custody History
After the presentation in this series was used around the state, it ended up in the possession of Willard R. Harwood, who had helped in compiling it. In 1963 Harwood gave the materials to the Utah State Historical Society. After the State Archives became a separate entity from the Historical Society, these records remained in the Historical Society collection. The Historical Society designated the materials as photo collection MSS C 309 and that number appears on various items in the series. The Division of State History transferred the materials to the State Archives in October 2021.

These records were acquired from the creating agency through established retention schedules.
Processing Information
The records in this series were initially processed by Susan Whetstone at the Utah State Historical Society. They were reprocessed by Alan B. Barnett when they were transferred to the State Archives in September 2021.
