Scope and Content
This series contains declarations, proclamations, executive orders and correspondence as well as an aperture set of executive orders issued by the office of Governor Matheson. Topics within the declarations and proclamations are widespread and diverse, while topics within the executive orders tend to reflect specific events happening at the time. Major issues touched upon in the executive orders include the creation of the governor's Blue Ribbon Task Force, MX missile basing in Utah and oil shale leasing. Photocopies of executive orders from previous administrations are also found in this series along with a list of every executive order issued between 1917 and 1983. Correspondences in this series tend to be from individuals wanting the Governor to make declarations for certain days/weeks/months. Most often these are accompanied with an official office reply indicating the Matheson administration's policy of only accepting declaration requests from a Utah representative or local sponsor.
