Job Fair at the SLC Library
Brooke and Tyson, two of our Archives volunteers, signed up a lot of potential new volunteers last Thursday. The Utah State Archives had a table at the teen oriented job fair held from 3-6 p.m. downtown at the Salt Lake City Library. A lot of the attendees stopped by (we were right near the snack bar) to see what happens at the Archives. Brooke and Tyson had created some attractive posters and were enthusiastic in sharing their experiences. Thirty names and e-mails were added to our potential volunteer list. Our next step will be a scheduled tour of the archives to follow up and see if any on the sign-up list are interested enough to respond to the invitation. Many of the students attending are in high school. There were some helpful workshops on interviewing, resumes, and cover letters. The sponsors offered lots of free snacks and handouts, a movie room, and a chance to explore some future job possibilities. With the slow job market, there were several tables offering a chance to volunteer. Volunteering in a profession in which you have interest adds power to a resume for when the right job comes along. Thanks to Brooke and Tyson who are great examples of that principle!
