Grant Projects Completed by Daughters of Utah Pioneers Museums
The Utah State Historical Records Advisory Board (USHRAB) is excited to highlight projects completed as part of their grant program. The USHRAB grant program has been active for the past 10 years and has awarded $205,000 to over 100 applicants from cultural heritage institutions. Grant projects focus on increased preservation and access to Utah’s historical records. Nine USHRAB grants were completed this summer. We will highlight the completed 2017 grant projects over the next few months.
The Cache Daughters of the Utah Pioneers Museum completed a USHRAB grant project in June 2017. They worked with Utah State University to digitize over 150 framed portraits of early pioneers. These images are now available online through the Utah State University website. The Museum still has additional images that will be digitized as part of a new grant so their entire portrait collection will eventually be online.
The Morgan Daughters of the Utah Pioneers Museum also completed a project in June 2017. They digitized their collection of original pioneer histories and portraits. They worked with Weber State University to complete the project and the digital images are available on the Weber State University website.
Both projects have increased the accessibility of the records and the awareness of the collections. These projects have generated excitement and interest from the local community.
The USHRAB is staffed by the State Archives and assists both public and private nonprofit organizations in the preservation of their historical records. Grants are available to regional and local repositories and other nonprofit cultural heritage organizations such as archives, governmental entities responsible for the care and custody of permanent records, historical societies, library special collections, museum archives, or colleges and universities. Projects focus on the care, preservation, and access to Utah’s historical records. The USHRAB’s re-grant program is funded through a grant from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission.
