This blog post was written by Nora Beebe, a spring 2025 intern at the Utah State Archives and Records Services.

Nora Beebe, a senior in Event Design & Experience Management at the University of North Texas, joined us this past spring as a remote intern. As our Crowdsourcing Project Management Intern, she worked on a variety of projects—updating our FromThePage profile, developing new volunteer engagement strategies, and promoting opportunities to students across the country.

FromThePage is an online crowdsourcing platform where volunteers transcribe, index, and describe historic documents. Nora helped improve the user experience of our profile by adding cover images to collections, standardizing collection titles and descriptions, assigning transcription difficulty levels, and linking to helpful how-to guides on our website.

Her work also inspired the creation of a new section on our website all about getting involved through transcription projects. This page offers an overview of what FromThePage is, how to participate, and where to find support as a volunteer.

Nora also contributed to volunteer engagement efforts by brainstorming ways to connect with both new and existing volunteers. Her strategies focused on creating a welcoming and supportive environment through regular communication, recognition programs, and opportunities for skill development. This approach aims to keep volunteers motivated, connected, and empowered to grow within the archival community.

To expand our reach, she created visually appealing flyers tailored to our two biggest volunteer audiences. These flyers shared key information about volunteering at the Utah State Archives and were posted to online university portals across the country. By targeting students in fields like history, library science, and nonprofit work, she helped us attract a wider and more diverse group of potential volunteers.

Nora’s internship has been a valuable experience, allowing her to build skills in communication, project management, and volunteer coordination. Her work has underscored the importance of fostering a strong and inclusive volunteer network. As she graduates, she’s excited to see how these efforts continue to grow and support the Archives’ mission.
