Federal, state, municipal, and county agencies worked separately to meet this demand and the board worked with these agencies to help them coordinate their development and conservation plans. The board cooperated with the National Park service to complete a study of park, parkway, and recreational area programs in an effort to thoroughly document Utah's recreational sites. The study lists existing and potential recreational areas over the state, their location, accommodations, attendance, accessibility , land and geographical features, and facilities.

Scope and Content

The State Planning Board recognized the growing demand for adequate and varied recreation facilities. The preliminary report, the final report, and the individual forms are included in this series. The series also contains charts that show tourist activities; reports on the Dinosaur National Monument, Kolob Canyon, and Zion National Park; a bibliography on forest recreation; lists of mountain elevations and national forests; wildlifestudies; a survey of scenic and recreational resources; and reports from the Utah State Museum Association including an archeological survey sponsored by the State Planning Board through the Utah Emergency Relief Administration appropriation for "museum extension" work. There are also blueprints for a proposed Utah history museum.
The Utah State Planning Board was officially designated as the state agency through which the National Park Service would operate and as the agency which coordinated the cooperative efforts of the following state agencies with the National Park Service in the Park, Parkway, and Recreational areas study: State Land Board, State Fish and Game Department, State Engineers Office, and State Department of Public Roads. Expenditure of funds was determined by the individual agencies. The State Planning Board had supervisory direction of the study projects and reports.
