Scope and Content

This series contains a record book of financial records and board of trustee minutes for Lynne School District (5th District) in Weber County. The book contains receipts for items such as territorial education apportionments, tuition, disbursements etc. The minutes document board meetings, including voting, nominations, financial issues, upkeep of the school, etc.
Lynne was a small community within Ogden City limits with its own school district. It was also sometimes referred to as Bingham Fort. The school district was alternately referred to as the Lynne, 5th District, or Bingham Fort School District.
At the time of the creation of these records, many school districts had been established in Weber County. Each school district had three trustees who were to, "employ teachers, make the rate of tuition, take charge of the building...provide furniture and appliances," etc. The trustee minutes in this record show how the duties were carried out in this particular school district. Education was funded in Ogden through taxes and tuition and later received financial support from the territorial government. Entries for tuition and payments are found within these records. In 1890, Lynne School District was dissolved when most of it became part of the Ogden CIty School District.
