Series 29983Centerfield (Utah) Bond redemption registers
Dates: 1952-1973
These records are housed in the Utah State Archives' permanent storage room.
Scope and Content
This series contains two books used to document the payment of municipal bonds issued for water works projects. One book contains documentation of a series of obligation bonds, which were ultimately secured by the ability of the town to levy taxes to pay off the bonds. The other book contains documentation of a series of revenue bonds, which were secured by the anticipated revenue to be brought in by the project when completed. Both series of bonds were issued by the town in 1952 with payments to be made twice a year. When payments were made, the town received coupons as a receipt of payment and those coupons were pasted in these books. When the the bonds were completely paid off, the bonds were returned to the town and placed in the books. The books were used to track and document the payment of the bonds. Virtually every municipality in the state issued bonds and would have documented payment of the bonds in a similar way. These books provide a representative example of the way municipalities tracked payment of bonds.
The coupons typically provide the payment number, date, amount, and the number of the bond in the series. They also have reference to the legal authority under which the bonds were issued and the printed signature of the town treasurer. The bonds have such information as the number of the bond in the series, name of the town, bond type, series date, bond amount, interest rate, date the principle was due, the dates when interest was due, and the name of the bank where payments were to be made.
