Summary of Records

This series contains official bonds and oaths of office for elected and appointed officials in Spanish Fork. Each elected and appointed official in the city is required by law to sign an oath before entering into the duties of their respective offices. The oaths generally contain the name and signature of the official, the date the oath was signed, and the language of the oath, which typically indicates that the official will abide by the laws of Utah and faithfully discharge the duties they were elected or appointed to carry out. Official bonds are typically taken out in the name of the elected or appointed official in the sum of around five hundred dollars. These bonds were made under the condition that the official would perform the duties of his position, the bond would be void, whereas if not, the city would be paid the money by the official. Each bond is signed by the official as well as a representative from the city. In many casts, the bond and the oath of office are on the same document.
