Department of Corrections Biennial and annual reports, 1896-

This series contains official published reports submitted to the Governor. The reports provide statistical information and explanations of activities of the Board of Corrections and the Department of Corrections from the previous biennium or year. As with most state departments, Corrections produced an annual report for 1896 and thereafter submitted reports every two years. By 1906 the state had adopted a reporting biennium starting in December and ending in November. By the 1930's the reporting period moved to correspond with the state fiscal year, starting in July and ending in June. In the mid-1950's the state changed to an annual reporting period, still corresponding to the July to June fiscal year. In addition to the official annual reports, this series also contains several published reports that contain information similar to the annual reports.

Information in the earlier reports focuses primarily on the state prison, with various statistics about prisoners and information aboutstaff, programs, facilities, and financial operations. Many of the reports include the official report of the State Prison. Later reports also include information about Adult Probation and Parole and the Board of Pardons.
