Summary of Records

This series contains registers used to record basic information about student identity, attendance, and performance The registers generally include the teacher name, grade level, student name, and attendance record. Other information that might be found are the student's age, parents' names, place of residence, scholarship performance in each subject, and whether they were promoted to the next grade. The school included classes for grades 1 - 8 through the 1940s, grades 1 - 7 through the 1950s, and grades K - 6 from the 1960s to 1980. Records from the late 1930's include "Soup Rolls," which appear to document an early school lunch program. These rolls tracked selected students and meals they received, along with funds spent by the school for food.

Research Note

It is clear that registers for various grades are missing from certain years in the records transferred to the State Archives. In addition, records for entire school years are missing, including those for the years 1943-44, 1944-45, 1947-48, 1950-51, 1957-58, 1958-59, 1959-60, 1964-65, 1965-66, 1967-68, 1969-70, 1970-71, 1971-72, 1973-74, 1974-75, 1977-78, and 1978-79.

Custody History

The records in this series dating from 1919-1980 were left behind in the old school building when the school moved to a new building. The City of Willard took over the old school as a city hall. The city recorder discovered the records and transferred them to the State Archives in May 2019.

Acquisition Information

These records were acquired from the creating agency through established retention schedules.
