Provo (Utah). City Recorder Municipal election files, 1945; 1961-2019

These records include a variety of documents related to the municipal election processes, candidate activity, and public engagement across the mid-20th and early 21st centuries. This collection was assembled by multiple city recorders over sixty decades as part of their responsibility in overseeing the candidate filings and certifying of election results.

The files in this series document the local election administration from 1945 through 2011. The files include ballots, tally sheets, official election results, candidate filings, financial documentation, election operations, and public communications. Candidate filings include nomination petitions, declarations of candidacy, and campaign materials. The administrative records include ordinances, resolutions, policies, and correspondence.

District maps and polling locations are included, showing precinct changes over time. Public-facing materials include proofs of publication, notices of election, and newspaper editorials. All years include extensive newspaper press coverage, except for 2011 which instead includes Facebook comment printouts.
