Scope and Content

The records in this series were created and collected by the Tooele City Water Company prior to its acquisition by the City of Tooele in 1915. Many of the records are on letterhead from the "Oquirrh Water Company," because Tooele City Water had acquired Oquirrh Water as a franchise by 1911. The records series includes stock owner records, correspondence, memos, petitions, agreements, resolutions, right of ways, and legal proceedings between the Tooele City Water company, Oquirrh Water Company, and the Settlement Canyon and Oquirrh Canyon irrigation companies. Salient records include agreements between the Water Company and Thomas and Annie De La Mare for the use of the "De La Mare Tunnel," records regarding the company's refusal to extend a water main as requested by the city (a conflict which went to the District Court in 1911), and the deeds granting all of the Tooele City Water Company's property to Tooele City during the acquisition in 1915.
The series also includes a ledger from the Tooele City Water Company of water stock records from 1890-1905. In 1959, Tooele City briefly used the ledger as an account of business licenses.
