Schedule Description

This series documents the Thistle landslide, the effects of the landslide, and some of the repair and construction efforts following the slide. Most are aerial photographs. There are also a few aerial photographs of the Salt Lake valley area included.

David Farr, the forensic photographer for the State Crime Lab offered these prints to the Archives on March 6, 2002. He took these photos himself. At the time he was (and is) the forensic photographer for Public Safety. The morning of the slide the Commission of Public Safety flew him to the scene to take photographs. This series does not include the negatives to these photographs or all of the prints. The photographer transferred prints and negatives to both the Utah Geologic Survey and to the Utah Dept Of Transportation. UGS's interest in the photographs was based on a survey marker which was photographed as part of this project. The prints and negatives transferred to UDOT were for that agency's use in lawsuits resulting from the slide. Prints were given back to the photographer (though not negatives) from UDOT, and these were then transferred by him to the Archives in March 2002.

This series was processed by Arlene Schmuland in April 2002. Finding aid was revised by Jim Kichas in March 2023 to include newly acquired records.
