Commission on the Reorganization of the Executive Branch

This series includes a variety of records created and kept by the Utah Little Hoover Commission. The commission was tasked with assessing the organization and functions of the Executive Branch of Utah government. The mission was to look for ways to improve efficiency in government through reorganization. This directive was executed through assessments of individual state agencies, public feedback, and committee debate and discussion. The final product of the Little Hoover Commission is a 1966 report submitted to the Utah State Legislature. Based on the findings and recommendations of that report the Executive Branch under Governor Calvin Rampton underwent the broadest reorganization in Utah's history up to that point. The records present here include information from state agencies including correspondence and reports on their organization and functions. Also present are reports from earlier attempts at state agency reorganziation in the 1930's and 1940's. These reports provide historical evidence of how state agencies were created and organized prior to changes recommended by the Little Hoover Commission.
