Office of Vital Records and Statistics Delayed Certificates of Birth
Digital Archives
About the Collection
Delayed birth certificates in Utah document births registered a year or more after the event, often due to births being unattended or unregistered. These certificates contain personal details like name, sex, birth date, birth place, and parent information, along with supporting documentation and registrar certification. Created primarily after 1941 to meet the demand for proof of citizenship, especially for defense industry workers, these records differ from standard birth certificates by lacking health information and requiring applicants to provide multiple proofs of birth. This collection was initially published with selected records with dates of birth in 1924 or earlier.
