Summary of Records
Scope and Content
These justice dockets document misdemeanor criminal cases heard by the justice of the peace. The dockets are books of pre-printed forms that provide space to record such information about each case as the name of the justice hearing the case, names of the plaintiff and defendant, a description of the complaint, date heard, a summary of the case, along with the decision and any penalty imposed, and the signature of the justice of peace. Common among the cases are charges involving disturbing the peace, fighting, public intoxication, illegal sale of liquor, and gambling.
Docket #8 includes a section for civil cases, dating from 1909-1910. This section would belong more appropriately with Series 13117, but it is physically part of this series.
Research Note
Because this series starts with Docket #2, there was presumably at least one earlier docket created by the justice court. The current whereabouts of any earlier dockets is unknown.
