Summary of Records

This series contains various records relating to the Clarkston Cemetery. The first record on this film is a book that was created by the Clarkston ward, which has two parts to it. The first pages of the book (1-17) contain a list of individuals that were present for the monument dedication of Martin Harris by Heber J. Grant. The second part of the record recorded burial information on those buried in the Clarkston cemetery. The burial information contains records of those who died from 1864-1992. The information listed contains name, parents, birth date and place, death date and place, spouse's name, and grave location. All of it is hand written, and does not seem to be in any order until 1984 when the entries become chronological. Also on this film is a collection of 3x5 cards filed alphabetically by last name of individuals buried in the cemetery. The information on each card includes name, grave location, birth date and place, death date and place, burial date and place, parents, spouse name. Each frame contains 4 cards, and only the front is filmed. There is also a map of the cemetery with the names of those interred listed over their grave sites. There are a small number of physical items in the collection that were transferred at a later date and note microfilmed. These include: records related to the legal establishment and care of the cemetery such as the legal description of the property, maps, ordinances, and deeds; some records related to beautification and care, including blueprints for a cattle guard, a fence, and records from a committee established to improve the cemetery and promote it as the resting place of Martin Harris; and correspondence related to the cemetery. The correspondence dates from 1939-1950 and is primarily to and from city officials to LDS Church leaders regarding funds for the cemetery, but also include a couple of letters to and from architects and other interested officials regarding improvement plans and landscaping.
