Summary of Records
Scope and Content
This series is comprised of a single-volume index to probate cases. A note in the front of the book states that the volume originally indexed all estates filed "since March 28th, 1899", but the book eventually recorded all probate cases, including estates, adoptions, guardianships, name changes, etc. as far back as 1871. The volume indexes the probate registers of action (Books C through G), but also indexes earlier cases that pre-date Book C.
Research Note
This index is arranged alphabetically by the first letter of the surname. Within each letter the index is broken down into a system of vowel-based sub-categories. Because use of this system was inconsistent over time, researchers may need to search the entire section of the first letter of the surname to be sure that the name being sought is not missed. It should also be noted that the case file number sequence starts over some time around the turn of the 20th century.
