Scope and Content

This series contains several record books and loose documents from the Weber County 3rd School District. The records pertain to financial issues such as taxes, expenses for the school house, teacher's pay, etc. The series also contains minutes from trustee meetings which include newspaper clippings of meeting announcements and also discussions regarding tuition, taxes, school expenses etc. It is important to note that one of the loose sheets of paper does not explicitly state the school district. However, individuals named in the record can be traced to the 3rd District.
At the time of the creation of these records, many school districts had been established in Weber County. Each school district had three trustees who were to, "employ teachers, make the rate of tuition, take charge of the building...provide furniture and appliances," etc. These responsibilities are shown and carried out within this set of records. The minutes and financial books record the amount of tuition paid, appropriations, school teacher salary, and the cost of materials needed for the school. Education was funded in Ogden through taxes and tuition and later received financial support from the territorial government.
During the time that the majority of these records were created up until 1876, Weber County 3rd District was also known as the Parry School District. In 1878, the 3rd School District was dissolved when it and the 2nd District merged into the 1st District. Later in 1890, all Ogden School Districts, including Lynne and Mound Fort, became the Ogden City School District.
