Summary of Records

This series contains bound volumes created to document the school-age children living within Ogden City. The school district compiled these school censuses to determine the number of students who would be attending district schools, what their ages were, and where they lived. The information also documented school-age children who were not attending public schools and why. This helped district officials to anticipate needs in the the schools based on projected enrollment and to allocate resources accordingly. The census forms in the books typically record such information as each child's name, parent or guardian, birthdate, age, home address, grade in school, and school attended.

Research Note

A number of years are missing in the holdings of the State Archives, including 1893-1894, 1897, 1900-1903, 1905, 1926, 1971-1973. It is not clear if records for those years were lost or if no census was taken.
