Series 30240Washington City (Utah) Cemetery burial permits
Dates: 1963-1991
These records are housed in the Utah State Archives' permanent storage room.
Scope and Content
This series contains burial permits and burial transit permits for people buried in the Washington City cemetery. The city sexton created these permits granting permission for burial and the forms typically include the name of the person to be buried, his or her age, date and place of death, place of birth, and sometimes the cause of death, occupation, name of the deceased's parents, and other biographical details. The forms were part of documentation required by the state for the transit and disposition of human remains. There are a handful of obituary clippings from newspapers documenting the deaths of individuals along with the burial permit.
Arrangement
None.
The original order of of the records in this series is unknown. Prior to transfer to the State Archives, Washington City scanned the documents for their records and in this process, original order was lost. Because the State Archives does not know if the records were arranged alphabetically by last name or chronologically by death date, and because the volume of records is small, order was not imposed during processing.Custody History
