Summary of Records
Scope and Content
This series contains the official record of regular, special, and emergency meetings of the city council. The minutes typically include the date, time and place of the meeting; the names of members present and absent; the substance of all matters discussed, and a record of votes taken. The series also contains some draft copies of minutes, along with the officially approved minutes.
Gaps
The city was incorporated in 1853, and would have been creating minutes from that time, but the whereabouts of minutes from 1853-1871 are unknown.

Custody History
The records in this series dating from 1871-2013 were microfilmed by the State Archives in 2014 and returned to the city recorder. At that time, the minutes from 1897-1911 were missing. In March of 2024, the records were found among books transferred to the Archives from the city.

These records were acquired from the creating agency through established retention schedules.
Processing Information
The records in this series dating from 1871-1897 and from 1911-2013 were archivally processed by Alan Barnett in March 2017. The finding aid was updated by Katie McGirt in April 2026, after the minutes from 1897-1911 were discovered among records transferred to the archives.
