Summary of Records
Scope and Content
This series contains registers documenting the issuing of building permits for various building construction projects in Salt Lake City. Entries are numbered consecutively in the chronological order in which the building permits were registered. The entry number coincided with the number of the building permit issued. In addition to the permit number, the registers record such information as the date of the permit, the property owner or individual applying for the permit, the architect on the project, the project builder, the address of the building, a very brief description of the type of building or project, and the estimated cost.

Custody History
Volumes [2] - [11] (1890-1927) of this series apparently came to the State Archives from Salt Lake City in 1975. They were microfilmed and the originals were put in the collection of the State Historical Society. The Division of State History transferred those volumes back to the State Archives in 2007. Volume [1] was in the custody of the State Archives by 1976, when it was microfilmed and the remaining volumes in the series have been in the custody of the State Archives since at least 1980.

This series was archivally processed by Alan Barnett in June 2011.

Indexes: The State Historical Society has a card index in the Research Center that indexes permits for properties between 900 West and 200 East and between 1000 North and 900 South. The index covers the approximate time period of 1890-1927.
