Summary of Records

This series contains a record of the daily proceedings of the court. For each day the court was in session, the records document actions taken by the court in the form of official documents filed in cases heard that day. From 1852 the courts had jurisdiction not only in probate matters, but in civil and criminal cases as well. These minutes record all types of cases heard by the court. In 1887 the federal Edmunds-Tucker Act restricted the jurisdiction of the court to probate matters. Pages from a Book B, containing naturalization records dating from 1862 to 1865, were at some point bound in at the back of the first minute Book A.
