Summary of Records
Scope and Content
This series was compiled by the State Library to list publications created by various state agencies. The reports contain information pertaining to agency, title, and subject. The reports are not comprehensive in coverage of all agency publications; they contain only those items supplied by the cooperating agencies and those purchased from other agencies by the State Library.
The purpose of these lists were to support the agency mission to a state publications collection (Utah Code 9-7-203 [2025]). Along with guidelines and manuals distributed to state agencies and depository librarians, a process existed connecting the State Library to other agencies and public libraries. As Governor Matheson wrote in the first issue of Utah Under Cover: "Citizens throughout Utah, as well as state agency personnel will be able to locate published information in libraries and determine which agency to contact for additional information."
These reports were published longest under the title "Utah Under Cover: Checklist of Utah State Agency Publications." In 1996, the reports became an online publication only, later renamed as "State Publications." In 2025, the mandate to maintain a state publications collection ended for the agency.
Gaps
There are no holdings after 1996 in paper or microfiche. The lists posted online may be available in web archives or similar sources.
Research Note
This publication was jointly created by the Utah State Library Commission and Utah State Archives and Records Service from 1970 to 1975. All issues are an excellent resource for state government history and the work of state agencies.
