Summary of Records

This series contains a variety of records relating to the Ranch exhibit. The records exist in a variety of formats, documenting the process of creating the exhibit, as well as the final exhibit.

Scope and Content

The Folk Arts Program hired folklorist Blanton Owen to conduct a survey focusing on material culture of Utah's ranching community in the Uintah Basin and in southwestern Utah. Art forms included saddle making and leatherwork, horsehair hitching, silver bit and spur making, metal work, blacksmithing, and rag rug weaving. These traditions were featured in an exhibit at the Chase Home Museum of Utah Folk Arts, in 1995, entitled "Underneath the Western Skies." This series contains records used in the creation of the exhibit, including field notes, promotional materials, loan forms, photos, and audio recordings.
Materials in this series were assigned a project number by the Folk Arts Program, consisting of a three-letter code, creation year, a letter indicating format, and the numerical order of the materials.
