Summary of Records

This series contains a variety of records relating to the research. The records exist in a variety of formats, documenting the administrative and fieldwork processes, as well as the results of the research.

Scope and Content

The Folk Arts Program received a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to research traditional storytelling in Utah and produce a cassette tape and booklet. Fieldworkers identified and documented traditional settings where stories are told. Thirteen field recordings were published in cassette form with an accompanying booklet explaining the context and significance of the stories. The published version included storytelling settings based on the following genres: family and heritage, stories by and for children, Shoshone animal tales, and stories of immigration, fishing, hunting, river running, railroading, cowboy life, and quilting. David Stanley was the primary fieldworker for this project. This series contains various files related to the research, such as photo slides, field recordings, project descriptions, and grant materials.
Materials in this series were assigned a project number by the Folk Arts Program, consisting of a three-letter code, creation year, a letter indicating format, and the numerical order of the materials.
