Summary of Records

This series contains records relating to the Chase Home Museum exhibit. The records exist in a variety of formats, documenting the administrative process of creating the exhibit, as well as the exhibit itself.

Scope and Content

"Willow, Beads and Buckskin" was an exhibit curated by Carol Edison in 1988 for the Chase Home Museum of Utah Folk Arts. In 1989 it was installed at Edge of the Cedars Museum in Blanding and in 1992 at the Natural History (Dinosaur) Museum in Price. Built upon the Indian surveys conducted from 1982-1986, this exhibit featured contemporary examples of the traditional arts of Utah's native tribes, Goshute, Paiute, Navajo, Shoshone, Northern Ute and Ute Mountain Ute collected from around the State of Utah. Featured art forms included beadwork, quillwork, basketry, textiles, musical instruments, cradleboards, moccasins, regalia and buckskin. The exhibit was accompanied by a lecture series on Utah Tribes co-sponsored by the Utah Humanities Council. This series includes various records related to the exhibit, such as photo slides and negatives, grant materials, exhibit labels with extensive biographies of the artists and their portraits, and correspondence.
Materials in this series were assigned a project number by the Folk Arts Program, consisting of a three-letter code, creation year, a letter indicating format, and the numerical order of the materials.
