Summary of Records
Scope and Content
The first Fife Folklore Conference was held at Utah State University in August 1977 at the same time as the Festival of the American West. In 1978 and 1979, NEA funds paid for fieldwork and presentations of local folk artists at the conference, to coincide with the public festival, and during the following two years the Utah Folk Arts Program cosponsored these artist presentations. In 1981 the conference was moved to June and the Folk Arts Program organized and hosted the first meeting of western states public sector folklorists which were held annually in Logan in conjunction with the Fife Conference until the 1990s. During the dozen years of the public sector meetings, the Folk Arts program staff presented Utah folk artists at the conference both in workshop situations and at free evening events for the benefit of conference attendees as well as the general public. This series contains records relating to the Folklore Conference, such as documents, photos, and audio recordings of performances from conferences.
