Summary of Records

This series contains records related to outside collections. The records exist in a variety of formats, documenting materials from these outside collections.

Scope and Content

Outside Collections is a category created by Folk Arts for materials that were collected by folklorists or other individuals not directly associated with the Utah Folk Arts Program. Many of these materials were copied for accession into the Folk Arts Archives while working on Folk Arts Program projects. Other items were commercially produced and purchased to become a part of the archives. Under this category, significant collections include selections from the Lester Hubbard Collection at the University of Utah, Calvin Jewkes Orchestra of Carbon County, stories told by Southern Utah cowboy Roland Rider, tapes recorded at the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Elko, Nevada, products produced by other folk arts programs, and many other commercially produced tapes of Native American, ethnic and rural folk artists from Utah. This series contains video and audio recordings, and photo slides of outside collection materials.
Materials in this series were assigned a project number by the Folk Arts Program, consisting of a three-letter code, creation year, a letter indicating format, and the numerical order of the materials.
