Schedule Description

These books contain maps of the cemetery. They are used daily to locate specific grave sites. These books include index, plat, and lot pages. The cemetery may only have a single wall map which serves as a key to locating specific graves.

Scope and Content

This series contains several sets of maps showing the layout of various sections of the cemetery with roads, walkways, and lots. The maps also give the location of burials and the names of lot owners. The set that appears to be the earliest is made up of blue-line on linen maps 22" x 34", apparently created as early as the 1920's. A second, later set, drawn in ink on linen, is 23" x 34". This original set is interfiled with a blue-line on paper copy set. The series also contains several additional maps, not part of a set. Most of the maps have changes drawn in pencil or pen along with various notes. Some of the maps have much later notes made on post-it tabs attached to the maps. Except for the map of Plat B, all the maps are undated, but appear to have been in use they were replaced by computer mapping systems.

Notes

This series was digitized by the State Archives in November 2012 and the paper copy was returned to Smithfield City.
