This series contains microfilm images of architectural plans for a proposed city hall. The City Council recognized the need for more extensive office space than what the city then had in the shared county courthouse. Two Salt Lake City architectural firms, Carroll and Kern and C. L. Thompson and S. J. Weigel presented proposals to the city council on 11 November 1889 (Utah Enquirer, 12 Nov. 1889, p. 2). After reviewing the proposals, the Special Building Committee recommended adoption of the plans of Thompson and Weigel and the City Council accepted that recommendation (Utah Enquirer, 19 Nov. 1889, p. 3). The Utah Enquirer carried a detailed description of the planned city hall, matching the plans in this series. According to the newspaper, the building was to be 115 x 80 feet with a tower 90 feet high, was to be erected on the site where the historic Utah County Courthouse currently stands, and was to cost $30,000 (Utah Enquirer, 24 Dec. 1889, p.3). The plans in this series are incomplete, but include a drawing of the west elevation, a plan of the main floor, and a roof plan. The plans include the name "Thompson and Weigel, Archts., Salt Lake City," but do not identify the building or the date of the plans. The identification is based on the match between the plans and the description in the newspaper.
