Schedule Description

This series contains minutes of meetings for the Monroe Young Men's Mutual Improvement Association.

Scope and Content

This series contains a minute book of the proceedings of regular meetings of the Monroe Young Men's Mutual Improvement Association (YMMIA). The Monroe association was organized on 22 October 1878 and was part of a movement in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the late nineteenth century to encourage self-improvement and educational opportunities among young Mormon men. The minutes typically provide such information as the date of the meeting and the proceedings, including adoption of minutes from the previous meeting, names of participants, prayers offered, hymns sung, and topics presented or discussed. The topics in the meetings appear to have been almost exclusively religious in nature. The record also includes attendance records of members. The book appears to have been rebound at some point with a cover made from an embossed wallpaper sample. The first two pages of the book, which may have included information on the formation of the group, are missing.
