Schedule Description
This series contains records filed with the county treasurer related to taxes paid by stock grazers. The term transient stock refers to livestock permitted to graze outside of the county of origin. The records in this series include transient stock owners' certificates and stock grazer's bonds. The certificates act as a declaration of livestock brought in to graze in the county and include number of livestock, any identifying brands and the length of time they intend to stay. Based on the time the stock will graze in the county a stock grazer's bond provided insurance that taxes would be paid. Stock owners' certificates were filed with county assessor and passed along to the county treasurer for tax collection. The stock grazer's bonds were filed directly with the county treasurer.
