Schedule Description

This series contains bound volumes used to record the proceedings of cases heard by justices of the peace. The books are made up of pre-printed forms with space to record basic information about each case. Cases heard by the justice of the peace include both criminal and civil matters, as well as a few inquests and some marriages recorded in the earliest book. Information recorded for each case may include names of the parties in the case, name of the justice, date of the complaint or charge, nature of the complaint or charge, date of hearing, decision of the justice, and any fees or fines associated with the case. In some cases, documents from the case may have been tucked in the pages of the dockets.

Notes

The volume in this series, dating from 1914-1933 was accessioned into the collection in 2025, but had been in the possession of the State Archives for decades. Exactly how or when the book came to the Archives is unknown.
