Schedule Description
This series contains two ledger books used to record the purchase and transfer of cemetery plots.
Scope and Content
This series contains two ledger books used to record the purchase and transfer of cemetery plots. The earliest book was initially identified as an "Assessment Roll". Ownership of burial plots was based on owning shares in the cemetery and on paying periodic assessments for maintenance of the cemetery. The early part of that book records those who owned shares in the cemetery and their payment of assessments over time. The information in the book was recorded after the cemetery came under the control of the Union Cemetery Association in 1892, but shares from an earlier ownership system are recorded in the book, some dating back as early as February 1876. This share and assessment system apparently persisted up until the time that the Town of North Ogden took control of the cemetery in 1940. The book continues to note the transfer of plots to new owners and the payment for perpetual care up into the 1980s.
The second book in the series records the purchase and transfer of plots, as well as payments for perpetual care, from 1966 to 1989. The books typically include such information as the name of plot owners, the date and cost of purchase of shares or lots, description of plots owned, and payments made for maintenance or perpetual care.
