Abstract
The Division of Corrections was created under the Department of Health and Welfare in 1967, and assumed some of the duties of the Board of Corrections as it was instituted in 1896. In 1967, however, the mandate of the Board of Corrections changed to be in charge of policy, whereas the Division was assigned the responsibility of managing the prisons and inmates.
