Scope and Content

The governors and state defense councils used the Planning Board to collect information and to prepare long range defense studies of basic state resources, including agriculture, transportation, power facilities, water and fuel supply, housing, industrial plants and equipment, labor, raw materials, and sites for new defense establishments. This series contains reports and correspondence concerning the development of these news sites of defense. They include reports on Fort Douglas; a preliminary report on the potential sites; and descriptions of sites in Alpine, Draper, Heber, Huntsville, Kamas, Parleys Canyon, Snyderville, Strawberry, Ogden and Tooele.
Several major Army supply and attack bases were shifted to the Salt Lake-Ogden region in the early 1940s. The Planning Board supplied maps and resource data for the desert areas and they also worked with the Advisory Commission to the Council of National Defense to provide specific information regarding Utah's defense resources.
