Summary of Records

This series contains a presentation album gifted from the Spanish Government and Spanish people in appreciation for the assistance provided to Spanish children through an American aid program. The album was reportedly prepared by teachers and students of the Tarragona province and was part of a larger program in which each of the 50 provinces in Spain presented a similar gift to a state governor in the United States Various schools in Tarragona apparently contributed pages for the book and each school highlighted different themes related to the culture, history, geography, economy, and people of the province. The album contains a wide variety of items, including maps, postcards, photographs, lace, and hand-painted scenes. The Reverend James G. Hunt, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Utah, presented the album to Governor Clyde on behalf of the Spanish Government on 24 May 1957.

Scope and Content

This series contains a presentation album gifted from the Spanish Government and Spanish people in appreciation for the assistance provided to Spanish children through an American aid program. The volume is bound in what appears to be faux green leather and housed in a matching satin-lined book box. The album was reportedly prepared by teachers and students of the Tarragona province and the title pages conveys the message "Los escolares de la provincia de Tarragona al Estado Americano de Utah en expresion de gratitud pora la Ayuda Social Americana (The students of the Province of Tarragona to the American State of Utah in an expression of gratitude for American Social Aid). This gift was part of a larger program in which each of the 50 provinces in Spain reportedly presented a similar gift to a state governor in the United States
Various schools in Tarragona apparently contributed pages for the book and each school highlighted different themes related to the culture, history, geography, economy, and people of the province. The album contains a wide variety of items, including maps, postcards, photographs, lace, and hand-painted scenes. Accompanying the book is an introductory letter signed by the National Minister of Education of Spain, dated 15 November 1956, along with an English translation of the letter. The Reverend James G. Hunt, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Utah, presented the album to Governor Clyde on behalf of the Spanish Government on 24 May 1957.
