Summary of Records
Scope and Content
This series contains ordinances written, passed, and enforced by the city of Spanish Fork. Ordinances deal with a variety of topics, including taxation, regulation of public spaces, businesses, animals kept in city limits, housing, signs, curfews, utility right of ways, annexations, utilities, and more. They also address business agreements between the city and public utilities, such as water, garbage, sewer, and electricity. The text of ordinances typically includes the ordinance number, the date, the body of the law, and the signatures of the mayor and recorder. Many of these ledgers also contain clippings from the local newspaper which offer proof of publication of the ordinance. Some ordinances also contain supplemental information such as a copy of the minutes of the city council meeting at which the ordinance was approved, or relevant reports or other documentation submitted by parties involved with the terms of the ordinance. These ordinances are compiled according to the year they were passed, but are also largely in numerical order by ordinance number.
Research Note
Ordinances dating from about 1956 to 1979 are not in the holdings of the State Archives.
Arrangement
Chronological by year ordinance passed.
