Scope and Content
These record books contain daily counts of inmates housed at the Utah State Prison. Specific data tracked in the record books includes: morning counts; the number of inmates received and discharged; evening counts; and, recapitulation data for each day tracked. The early record books contain counts but no identifying information for inmates being tracked. Later volumes contain more detailed data including names, identifying Utah State Prison numbers, and actions being taken (for example: inmates being sent to court, being returned from court, being paroled, etcetera).

Inmate visitor and correspondence case files from the State Prison, Series 3273, contain information on inmate and visitor interactions that align with actions documented in the Count Books.
Prison commitment registers from the Department of Corrections. Inmate Services, Series 80388, contain the prison commitment information for the inmates that are being counted and tracked in the Count Books.
Inmate jackets from the Department of Corrections. Division of Prison Operations, Series 84145, contain the inmate jacket case files for the inmates that are being counted and tracked in the Count Books.
