Scope and Content

This series contains detailed telephone messages from constituents taken down by administrative aides in the Governor's office, including Harry Allen, Emilie Charles, and Sherry Bassett. The Governor's Hotline was a toll-free number that constituents could use to voice their comments or complaints to staff members in the Governor's office. Staff members would provide a response themselves or direct the caller to the appropriate state or local agency. The Hotline system was "established to implement Governor Matheson's commitment to an open and responsive State Government." (Governor's Hotline Proposal, see box 3, folder 33 of this series.) Topics addressed by constituents include utility rates, social services (such as food stamps and housing assistance), state vehicles purported to be speeding or parked at restaurants, and taxes.
