Abstract

The Office provides assistance to veterans and their dependents in determining and establishing their rights to benefits, compensation or privileges to which they are entitled under federal or state law. The act creating the state office of veterans affairs was repealed in 1979. A new Office of Veterans' Affairs was legislatively created and signed into law by Governor Norman H. Bangerter in 1992 to advocate issues affecting Utah veterans. The earlier State Department of Veterans' Affairs existed between 1947 and 1951.

Provide counseling on veterans' benefits; assistance to veterans or their dependents in presenting claims against the United States or in establishing their rights to benefits, compensation or priveleges to which they are entitled under federal or state law; and informational and advisory services to agencies.

The office of veterans' affairs was created in 1973 within the department of social services (UTSVH01116-A) to be headed by a director appointed by the director of the department of social services.
